What a treat. Seasonal dishes accompany the main event: several excellent grades of wagyu steak, or exquisite seafood dishes.

Our chef and all the serving staff spoke perfect English, and could explain the food and its preparation with the excitement of passionate experts. Not at all snobby, despite the opulence of the setting, Atago feels comfortable and intimate. A real highlight of our holiday in Japan.

The service was fantastic and the food was delicious but in my opinion it’s slightly overpriced, dishes are quite small and you’re left wanting more.

It is expensive. That cannot be denied. It is, however, amazing. The cooking is exceptional and the service exemplary. From an great scallop and pea puree to a flambé wagyu beef fillet, from a perfect miso to a delicious brownie with baked apple and florentine, it is outstanding.

Teppanyaki and Hibachi are two Japanese cooking styles that involve grilling on a hot iron plate. While often used interchangeably, they have distinct differences. Teppanyaki refers to cooking on a flat griddle, where chefs skillfully prepare dishes like steak, seafood, and vegetables in front of diners. Hibachi, on the other hand, uses a round, open-grate grill heated by charcoal or gas, imparting a smoky flavor to the food. Discover the nuances and theatrical flair of these two captivating Japanese culinary arts.
