Chances upon searching for good place to eat dinner and rest our tiring legs.

We follow Google map and found this place located at level 3. Once the lift open is the restaurant. Have to take off shoes and put on the shelves.

Food was freshly done and it was good. We enjoy every bite.

Overall experience was nice and friendly.

DO NOT EAT HERE. The worst sushi we had in Japan and was very expensive and awful quality sushi. We were very hungry, and everything was busy on a Friday night, so we went here. We were charged for water without them telling us there was a fee for water, nigiri was charged per piece, 1200 yen for one piece of chu-toro to give you an idea of price. We had much better quality elsewhere for half or less than half of the price. We had 2 pieces of tamago, 2 pieces of very chewy poor quality salmon, and 2 pieces of chutoro with water that was 4,780 yen and we left to eat much better quality sushi that was less than half the price elsewhere. There was an English menu that definitely overcharged tourists and is a tourist trap. There was only one other person in the restaurant which should have been a red flag, and he seemed like he was the owner’s friend. The worst experience in Japan, and I rarely write bad reviews unless the experience was truly awful. I want to help other tourists avoid this mistake and avoid eating here.

Really good sushi and affordable. A bit hard to find the place if you don’t speak Japanese. They have English menu. You have to take your shoes off at the entrance. We ordered the chef special and it was a great choice. Highly recommend.

First of, I don’t know how to suggest this edit for the location since I couldn’t find it. The place is on the 3rd floor and not the first. The mistake can easily be made since the first floor also has a restaurant so be careful.

The staff at Azuma sushi were very friendly and the ambiance is very welcoming. It felt like we were eating at someone’s home.

The seafood for the sushi and everything else were great.

It was also very convenient that they’re open late so you can relax and have a meal after a long day walking around in Kyoto.

Would recommend this place to anyone.

I went here based on a review I found online.

It was slightly hard to find. You have to take a small elevator up to the 3rd floor. The elevator opens right into the restaurant. There were only two other people eating there on a Wednesday evening. They did have an English menu, but spoke pretty limited English. They did try though.

The sushi that we had was okay. Each piece was fine, but there was not any of them that stood out as above average. I felt that the portion size of the nigiri was a little small for the price given that the fish was not amazing.

Since there was only two other customers (seemed to be regulars) the whole time we were there it was slightly awkward sitting at the sushi bar since there were several chefs just standing around right in front of you not doing anything.

I suspect if you could speak Japanese and/or went at a time it was busy it might have a different vibe.
