We came in after 10 and just wanted to have dessert, while the place was mostly empty. The server originally told us that only people who buy alcohol need to pay the table charge but in the end everyone had to pay (over 600 each). The rule is that if one person orders alcohol, we all pay the service charge, but they didn't manage to explain that.
The bread that they brought was incredibly mediocre, with white square bread served as a tasting bread?! How can you call yourself a bakery and serve that kind of bread?! I can go to a conbini and buy that, thank you very much.
Everything in the shop was average or below, including the caramel filling in the pastries which was very artificial. From the terrace you can see dubious guys trying to convince street walkers to go to their brothels. Will definitely not go back.

Popped in late, 45 mins before closing. Wasn’t busy, but the staff weren’t in a rush to kick us out over an hour later.
The roast duck was excellent. So was the seafood gratin. A proper roast vegetable salad along with unlimited bread made for a cracking late night snack. With a few beers and wine thrown in. Oh, their chips are awesome.
Excellent service. Will be heading back the next time we’re in Koenji.

I would like to share my less-than-pleasant experience at Koenji Flat.
I visited the café on a Sunday in January. When I arrived at 11:30, the place was completely packed, and there was a queue. I waited for about 80–90 minutes, only to find out that the dish I came for was available exclusively on the evening menu. The Instagram post where I first saw this dish made no mention of its limited-time availability. In fact, one of the hashtags even said lunch.
Despite this disappointment, I decided to stay since I was already cold and hungry. I ordered one of the lunch dishes along with the free bread refill option. While the salad dish I ordered was quite good, the bread refill experience was very disappointing. I waited for 45 minutes without receiving any bread. Eventually, I had to ask for it, even though other customers were being served refills without needing to ask. Even when I did receive bread, I was never served first, and by the time it reached me, there were barely any options left to choose from. The bread refill option felt like a waste of both money and time.
Additionally, I noticed inefficiencies in how the staff managed seating. When tables became available, they waited 5–10 minutes before calling the next group, despite the long queue outside. This was particularly frustrating given how cold it was that day—every minute counts when you're waiting in such conditions.
To summarize, while the food was good, the service left much to be desired. The staff tried to be polite but lacked efficiency. Furthermore, if certain dishes are only available at specific times or seasons, this should be clearly mentioned on their social media or menu.

lovely service and great baked goods selection. The pudding bread is a tad sweet and the melon bread is a little bit dry imo but overall would go back again!
Highly recommend the pistachio cruffin tho ^^
Heads up!!! They don’t accept cash :D
