It's a great place to buy souvenirs. They have a good selection of Japanese tea ( sencha and matcha). The shincha will be harvested in early May. There are tea leaves, tea bags and matcha powder here, priced for every budget. It is not a value/cheap place.

The staff spoke a couple words/phrases of English. Don't expect to have a full conversation. Staff was friendly and helpful.
They served me 3 cups of tea to sample.
They even put a raincoat on my paperbag.

Upstairs was closed when I arrived. This place was fairly easy to find. It is not on the main street but rather the alleyway/side street. Google maps was accurate with directions.

One of best places to buy and taste sencha and other Japanese tea that my wife and I have returned to many times in the past few years. They are owned by a tea distributor so you can buy good quality downstairs at very reasonable prices. Upstairs they serve tea sets with wagashi specially sourced locally to match the tea. The tea change according to the season and the preparation methods are sometimes quite experimental. I have tasted the some of best gyokuro and sencha at this joint. And the tea and sweets are served in beautifully crafted tea wares and plates made by Japanese craftsmen. All in an exquisitely modern setting with wonderful service and often at a price not much more than a grande latte at Starbucks. Highly recommended!

Go upstairs for the wonderful tea tasting. Then go downstairs to buy the tea afterwards (I bought the matcha). Tasting was fantastic and well priced. The teas were superb, snacks were tasty and service was friendly. Views weren’t the best, but overall A great experience I highly recommend.
