I’d give this place a 4.5 if I could. It’s certainly an old school cafe, kinda reminding me of an American diner. They are famous for pancakes, so I had to try one. It’s a mix of a regular version and the Japanese version, with a fluffy exterior and a softer (but not wet) center. Enjoyed the fact they give you a bottle of syrup to pour to your hearts content. The coffee was good as well. Friendly service and good price.

Very unfriendly to tourists. I understand if folks are tired of dealing with non-Japanese speakers but I had a very unpleasant experience simply asking about Visa (credit cards).

I recently visited this lovely cafe, and it's mostly frequented by regulars. The staff were incredibly kind, and the service was pleasantly quick. The tea served with the dessert in the photo was only 1000 yen, which amazed me considering the generous portion—definitely enough for two people! Although it's a bit separated from Kamata station, I highly recommend stopping by when you're in the area.

Hidden in a corner of the Kamata RLD (one of the most charming of Tokyo's RLDs) is Cafe Bar Cherry, an old neighborhood standby right out of the Showa period. The place is known for its outrageous signature sundae, called pudding a la mode, an explosion of ice cream, whipped cream, and colorful tropical fruit. There are other lunch dishes also.

Owned and operated by a couple from the early Showa period, the place is not for people in a hurry. Bring a lot of patience, especially around noon time, when Kamata East's more mature demographic occupies every available seat at Cherry's. Cherry's anti aging juice is perfect for that target group. Having been born far in the last century ourselves, we felt right at home here.

The place is frighteningly inexpensive. We shared an outrageous pudding, and with two coffees, the total bill was slightly over $10. Apparently, the price never changed since Showa either.

Don't buy into the smoking propaganda in the reviews. We sat downstairs, and nobody smoked. According to the staff, smoking was definitely dame.

Kamata's aforementioned RLD won't wake up before nightfall, so if you want to kill some time in the afternoon, Cherry is the place.
