I had dinner at the start of March at Cocon in Kamimeguro, and was so impressed I immediately booked again for my return to Tokyo at the end of March.
It‘s a 4th floor urban attic with cool spare lines on one side of the room and a tidy kitchen on the other side of the bench, all with a hot soul and reggae soundtrack. Everything made and served by the chef alone. It’s charming, entirely unpretentious, and quite wonderful.
The food deserves big words like bold, inventive, and playful, but basically every dish just tasted bloody good. Modern Japanese food made with French techniques, strong use of local ingredients, and a few Australian influences thrown in.
Best dishes were an amazing salad of baked and raw carrot with scallop garum, salmon roe and goat cheese; a flavour packed roasted lamb dish with bbq cucumber; a dish of grilled baby squid and the newest of bamboo shoots, with guacamole, corn chips and lime that should have been a modern fusion disaster but somehow worked perfectly; hirame (white fish) marinated in cherry leaves and served with white asparagus and spring herbs; and a coffee mochi dessert with strawberries and white chocolate cream. However, they were all good. Not a dud amongst them.
¥14,500 for ten courses is an absolute steal. The matched wine and sake was also excellent. I have a feeling I will be raving about this one for a while. Booked through Pocket Concierge.

Absolutely amazing we did the tasting menu and alcohol pairing. Very secluded it was just us and chef Masa. Very nice guy and food was S-tier. I expect this place to blow up.

The restaurant is based on French cuisine and also incorporates Australian cuisine.
You can enjoy a lot of dishes, and I thought they made good use of vegetables, fruits, and acidity. Also, the texture is ingenious, making it fun to eat.
I also ordered a wine pairing course, but I was able to fully enjoy the pairing of the natural wines with the food.
I really wanted to visit regularly.

The homemade almond milk ice cream was so delicious I wanted a second helping!
The aged chestnuts, the apples and grapes had a beautiful acidity and color, and all the ingredients were carefully crafted to be very delicious.

For some reason, I get the impression that kangaroos are muscular...
When I timidly tried eating it, it tasted like red meat as expected.
It has a refreshing taste, is easy to eat, and is delicious◎◎
The main meat is also lamb game meat.
It was soft and delicious without being sticky at all.
