I came here with my girlfriend. We reserved a week in advance because it is a very popular restaurant. The atmosphere is cosy and dimly lit.

Even the small bowl is enough for two. I recommend the royale pot with all three choices of sausage, lamb, and chicken because you get to try all three flavors.

We had the Moroccan salad, which is a refreshing chopped salad comprising cucumbers, red onions, cilantro 🌿, and tomatoes 🍅 with a cumin and vinaigrette dressing.

We ordered three homemade bread s/ olive oil in case there wasn’t enough food. It was a good dish to stave off hunger while we waited for the main couscous dish.

The shrimp bread dish or anchovy marinate is also great, though we didn’t order it this time.

In retrospect I should have paired the bread with the anchovy… perhaps next time.

The couscous dish was fantastic, flavorful, and filling.

The chicken, sausage, and lamb appear grilled before they are stewed so they also had a great texture.

The appetizers and main dishes should all be ordered at the beginning because it is a very busy restaurant.

The desert was delicious too. The chestnut cake had a meringue base. The size of the chestnut was also surprisingly big.

When I return, I will definitely try the Apple Tartan Cake.

Cous cous focused, cozy bistro style restaurant in Shimokitazawa. For the first time? Please do not miss their signature cous cous lineup, lamb, merguez, chicken, fish and cous cous royal!
Also they have so many seasonal signatures such as roasted beef, soupe de poisson etc, so you had better come here four times a year at least;)
Lastly, the che is just relatively a quiet person (he always picks up the phone for the reservation), but is extremely a kind person, too, so please do not hesitate and ask him and the staff anything🙂

Couscous with Merguez (spicy lamb sausage) is a Northern African dish, very difficult to find in Tokyo. Rougir specializes in this and other lamb couscous variations. M-size portions serves well three people. We had ebipan (shrimp bread), salad and merguez couscous, all tasty and fulfilling. Prices around ¥3,000 per person.

Probably not for the tourist as it's a really easy way to forget you're in Tokyo.
    Delicious couscous royal !
