Coyacoya is an innovative Chinese restaurant and is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Tokyo. We had an opportunity to do takeout during the COVID19 state of emergency and we enjoyed the food so much that we knew we would have to dine in at the restaurant once they reopened and returned to their regular hours of operation.

The restaurant is really popular so we went about twenty minutes before opening. We had heard that there is usually a line even before they open, but we got lucky since we were the first ones there. In fact, we were the only people at the 15-seat restaurant for about a hour after they opened so we got to chat with the owner who is super fun and friendly.

They have a great food and wine selection that is very affordable. Because we knew how rare it was for us to have the entire place all to ourselves, we ended up trying to get the whole experience by ordering almost everything on their menu. Everything was delicious, but we especially enjoyed the potato salad with egg, shredded tofu with olive oil, the Hong Kong style noodles, the mushroom spring rolls, shumai, and the mapo tofu. They have a great selection of organic wine and they all go really well with their food.

Sadly, the owner said that he is relocating and moving his restaurant to Paris in 2024 so make sure you check this place out while they’re still in Tokyo!
