Den Description

Located in Tokyo's Aoyama district, Den is a Japanese restaurant that offers a truly unique dining experience. Since its relocation from Kojimachi to Gaienmae in 2016, Den has been making waves in the culinary world, earning accolades such as the Silver Award at The Tabelog Awards in 2023. Led by Chef Zaiyu Hasegawa, Den is known for its innovative and playful approach to traditional Japanese cuisine.

What sets Den apart is Chef Hasegawa's ability to infuse humor and creativity into his dishes, creating a dining experience that is not only delicious but also fun and surprising. Each dish is carefully crafted to showcase the chef's impeccable skills and attention to detail. From the moment you step into Den, you'll be transported into a world of culinary delights, where traditional Japanese flavors are elevated to new heights.

One of the standout dishes at Den is the 'Dentucky Fried Chicken,' a playful twist on the classic American dish. Instead of using chicken, Chef Hasegawa uses a combination of fish and vegetables to create a crispy and flavorful bite. Another must-try is the 'Den-tucky Fried Chicken,' a dish that combines the flavors of Japan and Kentucky in a unique and delicious way.

The restaurant's interior is equally impressive, with a modern and stylish design that reflects the innovative nature of the cuisine. The warm and inviting atmosphere makes it the perfect place to enjoy a memorable meal with friends or loved ones.

Whether you're a food enthusiast or simply looking for a one-of-a-kind dining experience, Den is a restaurant that should not be missed. With its creative and playful approach to Japanese cuisine, it is sure to leave a lasting impression on your taste buds and your heart.

During our time in Japan, we frequented a number of similarly situated (i.e. 2-stars and globally ranked) restaurants), and Den was hands down the best dining experience we had. From the moment we entered, there was a unique warmth to the atmosphere and we immediately felt welcomed. Every dish, while at first glance may seem simple, reflects the attention to the quality and source of the ingredients, level of creativity, and preparation required. While some fine dining experiences eschew humor and playfulness, Den never takes itself too seriously and is able to come up with tongue-in-cheek variations on some common dishes (e.g. Dentucky Fried Chicken). Nearly every dish had an ingredient that we loved, so needless to say we enjoyed the meal from beginning to end.

Service was spectacular. Special thanks to Noriko and Koji for their attentiveness and making us feel at home. We don’t normally do wine/drink pairings with our meal, but Noriko’s recommendations were spot on and really helped us explore a variety of sake that we would never have otherwise.

We plan on coming back to Den anytime we’re in Tokyo, and we can’t wait to see what new creations Chef has in store, and the rest of the Den family and Puchi.

Den, best restaurant in Asia.

Den has lived up to their status as number 1 restaurant in Asia.

I was fortunately enough to visit in December 2021, and Den blew my mind.

Den uses the freshness of the local ingredients to produce Japanese dishes. After living in the country side, and eating fresh local ingredients, the Den team managed to bring out flavourful dishes Using local Ingredients even beyond that, and that surprised me.

My go to will DFC (Den fried chicken), the Shirako soup, and the prawn rice cooked in a clay pot.

The customer service provided by Den was the best from a restaurant I’ve been too.

Everything was so fresh, and the chef cater towards you if dietary requirements is required.

Would come back again on my next trip to Japan.

Make sure to book 2 months in advance minimum as they do get really busy.

Den was an excellent experience. All the dishes were simple but just exquisite. My wife described it as Japanese home cooking. The service and staff are all top notch. By far one of my favourite dining experiences ever.
