I am from Taiwan. So I was excited to see that they have Din Tai Fung in Shinjuku. So I got to try it and see any difference.
So I order different xiao long bao to taste them. First of all the skin of the xiaolongbao it's very much different it is much thicker. The taste also doesn't taste like the Taiwanese version. I think they adjusted to taste more like Japanese flavor. So I was kind of disappointed.
I also tried the shrimp fried rice and mango ice cream.
The shrimp fried rice does taste similar to the Taiwan version. And the mango shave ice, it's not your thinking of shaved ice because the ice is consist of milk and water and in Taiwan we call them 綿綿冰.
Which is pretty good for Japanese version of the shave ice but there are only two mango cub 😢, and mango syrup was okay.

This place is located at 12th floor Takashimaya Shinjuku. Is beside Uniqlo. You need to take number to wait for the seat.
Order the beef noodle set come with siew lung pau. Also order the spicy wonton noodles. Both taste good. The dessert mango pin not so nice. Not much mango inside only 2 small pieces. Taste the ice with mango syurp only.

You can't compare this location to the ones in Taipei, not sure if they adjusted the recipe for Japanese but the skin of 小籠包 is thicker. 紅油抄手 also isn't as tasty. Fried rice was good, Taiwanese A vegetable was good but a little bit on the greasy side. The service was also quite slow, I think they may be short staffed due to the New Year holiday. Menu is limited as they don't have all the noodle dishes, and they also ran out of chicken soup by 7:30p. Overall a disappointed experience, would not come back to this location.

A soup dim sum restaurant on the 12th floor of Takashimaya department store. They don't take reservations, so best come early and line up for a number. The soup dim sums are their highlights, which is nice. It used to be very delicious, but this time, it seemed to be normal. The braised beef noodle was ok too, nothing to go wow about. The broth was light and nice. The staff work like machines due to the crowds, so don't take it personal if they don't behave like the normal Japanese restaurant omotenashi style. It is an OK restaurant if someone fancy dining in the department store for Chinese soup dim sums.
