This place is a gem. For those seeking an authentic sushi experience in Gion, away from the bustling tourist areas, I’d highly recommend this restaurant. Their lunch service is exclusively by reservation, so you might need assistance from a Japanese speaker to book a table. We tried their 6,500 yen lunch course, and it was absolutely fantastic. They use the freshly shredded real wasabi, elevating the taste of already fresh ingredients. The highlight was the super fluffy Anago eel. Every dish was a delight, and the overall experience was truly memorable. Not sure if they have English menu, so it may be better to go with somebody who speaks Japanese.

This is a great place to come to after visiting Kiyomizudera Temple. I was lucky since they had a space for me, but reservation will ensure you have a spot for some delicious sushi! Although a bit pricey, I definitely recommend it!

Just got out from this fabulous dinner and I have no complaints. My friend and I are both foreigners and although some might be intimidated by the local atmosphere at first, the chef puts you at ease. I can’t even think of something to knock down because everything was top notch. Even after our meal, chef offered us extra courses and drinks as we looked amazed by his cooking skills. Everyone at the bar toasted him in the respect he deserved. We booked through a call on the same day even though this might be difficult depending on the day. If you are in Kyoto and looking for some amazing nigiri and hospitality, please check out Gion Sato.
