Gion Sushi Nakamura Review Summary

This place came recommended by a friend but we were not impressed. First and only ones in the restaurant yet service was off. I’ve had enough sushi to know a lot of the textures were just wrong. Also a lot of cooked fish, which gave me the feeling the fish wasn’t fresh. Rice was gummy on only some nigiri which was really odd. The octopus was as chewy as can be (and it was cooked). Only omakase in Japan we went too were we didn’t finish some of our dishes. I only enjoyed 2 or 3 dishes so I couldn’t recommend this place to anyone confidently. Sake was great.

Absolutely amazing omakase. Around $130AUDpp for lunch and it is the best money you’ll spend. So many courses of nigiri and every single piece was so fresh and tasty. It melted in your mouth. The service was fantastic. The other patrons ended up not coming so it was just us and the chef and took 45 mins total. It was absolutely incredible. It was just a little hard to find but we got there in the end.

Not recommended. The cooked dishes are good but sushi still need a lot of work. Service are very friendly.

It was very pleasant evening. The food was fresh and tasty. Service friendly and nice.

Made a reservation for lunch to try the Omakase. The restaurant was on 4th floor of Miyuki building. Using google map, I had no issue finding the restaurant.
The dishes were great. Quite a decent variety of various sushi and cooked items. Loved the clams soup. Also the oysters were well prepared too.
Simply delicious.
The chef was able to translate the name of the various type of fishes served, using a pre-prepared list.
The hygiene level was good too.
The restaurant, including the toilet, were well-designed. The toilet was kept clean too.
(If the toilet is clean, the restaurant will be clean too)
Overall dining experience was great.
Looking forward to visit during my next trip!
