After our visit to Toei Kyoto Studio, we stumbled upon Hashimoto, a tiny little restaurant with limited seating that specialises in Karaage - fried chicken. It was really good food that is off the tourism beaten path. There were only 2 low tables and some counter seats. Everything tasted great to me, even better than most of the restaurants at Dotonbori which have so many visitors, goes to show that there are many hidden gems in Japan that we are unaware of. Oysters and fried chicken were the best.

Like other reviews, I left Toei Studio Park and waited for Hashimoto to open at 6pm. Couldn’t sit by the counter as it was all reserved by the locals, so I had 1 table of 4 all to myself. Ordered the Karaage Set which was a huge portion and a beer. Total ¥1480. Food was great! No english menu unfortunately so I could only order what people ordered from the reviews.

We found this little gem while walking around Kyoto. Like other reviews mentioned, it is across the street from Tohei Kyoto Studio Park. The food was very good, fairly priced and the owner is super nice and very attentive. We ordered Karaage, Ponkara, and Otsukuri Set (Sashimi set). The ponkara is breaded slightly differently from the karaage and comes with a ponzu dipping sauce. We highly recommend it. The Sashimi set was also delicious and the fish was very fresh.
