Kamunabi is a renowned ramen shop in Nishi-Nippori, Tokyo, which has garnered a loyal following for its exceptional ramen, in particular for its iconic slab of hefty char siu (roast pork) served with each bowl. Open since 1999, this establishment has consistently appeared on Tabelog's Top 100 Tokyo ramen shops list since 2017, underlining its enduring popularity and quality.

The shop isn't the most accessible but it's in proximity to Nishi-Nippori station. It distinguishes itself with a signature shoyu (soy sauce) ramen, characterized by a complex flavor balance - both bold and salty, yet offset by the sweetness of mirin. The soup base, a blend of pork and chicken bones, kelp, and bonito fish flakes, navigates between lightness and richness, providing a unique taste experience.

The most striking aspect of Kamunabi's ramen is the enormous slab of char siu that dominates each bowl. This sizeable pork piece is not only a visual marvel but also enriches the ramen with its deep, meaty flavors. Complementing the char siu are toppings like green and white spring onions and bean sprouts, which add texture and balance to the dish.

The ambience of Kamunabi is welcoming, a refreshing departure from typical ramen joints. The friendly lady boss takes orders directly, adding a personal touch to the dining experience. While the prices are slightly above average, with a regular bowl costing around ¥1500, the quality and portion size justify the cost. The ramen here, particularly the char siu variant, is a must-try for enthusiasts seeking an indulgent, flavor-packed meal.

Do take note for their limited opening hours.

Very interesting flavour. Consommé + hint of medicinal + shoyu.

Noodles and toppings are great. Charsiu goes well with the soup.

The almond tofu dessert is divine.

Wife of chef works hard to serve and has cute mannerisms.

Bit pricey, but overall great experience!

"Kannabi" is located a short distance from Nishinippori.
I arrived at around 11:30am and waited, and were shown around by a very polite waiter.

I ordered the "Shoyu Ramen (¥1500).

The special feature of "Kannabi" is the roasted pork. The ramen is topped with an extra large piece of roasted pork.

It is not hard at all.
When you put your chopsticks into it, it crumbles and melts away as you eat it.

The soup has a subtle sweetness and richness.
The umami spreads out and it is not just soy sauce ramen. It is as if you are drinking dashi broth.
I have never had such a delicious ramen soup.

The noudles are also perfect.

I think this is probably the number one ramen I will ever eat in my life.
