Kinon Description
Located in Kamakura, Kinon is a unique dining establishment that sets itself apart with its innovative approach to cooking. The restaurant's standout feature is its use of wood-fired cooking, which adds a distinct flavor profile to its dishes. Unlike traditional ovens, wood-fired cooking involves managing the fluctuating intensity of the flames, resulting in a beautifully uneven sear and smoky essence that cannot be replicated with gas. This method not only showcases the skill and experience of the chefs but also infuses each dish with a one-of-a-kind taste that is both rustic and comforting.
The menu at Kinon boasts a selection of carefully curated dishes, with the Special Course being a popular choice among diners. This course includes delicacies such as warm caviar with kelp, Uni toast, and specially selected Wagyu beef, all cooked using the mesmerizing wood-fired technique. The restaurant's interior design exudes a modern aesthetic that seamlessly blends with the traditional method of cooking, creating a dining atmosphere that is both sophisticated and inviting. With a focus on attention to detail and a commitment to quality, Kinon offers a culinary experience that is sure to delight food enthusiasts and those seeking a taste of something truly exceptional.

A small gem in kamakura near the station. Chef and owner worked under Saison San Francisco.
He uses wood to cook his meat and fish.
You get a nice wood smell throughout the restaurant.
Its only counter seating and during covid he limits to 2 parties a night.
Wine collection is from small farms in California.
Its a decent amount of food with 2 desserts.
Just a note you get a choice of tea or coffee for dessert but its an additional 800 yen. I didn’t know.
All in all the food was great. Meat and fish were cooked beautifully.
Since they are cooked on an open fire it does take a long time to get through the course. It was about 3 hours to finish. Enjoy the entire experience.

Phenomenal and a must visit! Chef Murano is a unique talent who was previously at the 3 Michelin starred Saison in SF. Kinon is a 6-seat intimate culinary experience and worth a short train ride from Tokyo for the evening, or overnight in the charming hamlet of Kamakura.

A wood-fired restaurant in Kamakura.
It is located in a quiet area about 5 minutes walk from Kamakura Station. The interior is elaborate and exciting.
The special feature of this shop is the firewood! Before you start cooking, you can see the burning firewood up close. I was very excited because I rarely get to work in the kitchen at this type of restaurant.
All the dishes were delicious. Since it is roasted over wood, its aroma becomes a wonderful spice for cooking.
Eating while watching the crackling firewood was very relaxing and the atmosphere was very nice.
The chef runs the restaurant by himself, but the customer service is very polite and the atmosphere is comfortable. Next time, I would like to try it with MABOROSHI wine.
