eel unagi, eel unagi, eel unagi. Best I had in Tokyo by far. You know you are in for a treat when you enter a small shop off the main road and the place is full of locals. I waited 10mins for a sit which is acceptable given it is lunch peak hour. I was also provided an English menu with photos attached to the end. The special sauce that served separately really lit up the eel. If you are not in a rush and would like to indulge a true local dine in experience, definitely pay a visit to here. Staff is very friendly also.

"Life changing" might be a little dramatic but it's not far off! Absolutely amazing unagi and the sake was unbelievable as well. We went for lunch and got one of the box sets of unagi on rice, and got a recommendation for sake to go with it. The one they brought us was so delicious (I haven't had much sake but now I am a new fan!). And the unagi.... Wow! So, so delicious. For 2 people we spent ¥10,500 which for us is a lot for lunch, but honestly it was so worth it!!

Traditional unagi (fresh water eel) restaurant in the Ueno/Okachimachi area. The unagi is very carefully prepared and served in the traditional way. The also offer other interesting small dishes such as grilled innards and unagi omelette. The restaurant is very old but the exterior has been renovated, but the furniture is quite old which really enhances the traditional feeling of the place.
If you are a fan a great unagi, this is definitely a place to put in your list.
