A popular tonkatsu restaurant in Nakatsu that is well known in Osaka. It is a restaurant that is difficult to make reservations for, and at the beginning of each month, many people try to make reservations by phone. This was my first visit after being invited by a friend. Up until then, I wasn't really interested in tonkatsu, but after eating it here, I was hooked on it.
It's located in a back alley in Nakatsu, so if you're visiting for the first time, you might get a little lost. The shop looks like a normal private house, so it has a strong sense of being hidden away. The store is a small space with only 5 seats at the counter, and there is a time system, so you can stay for one hour for lunch.
One of the best parts of being at the counter is being able to watch the young owner cut and fry the tonkatsu right in front of you. The sound of the cutlet frying and crunching! The sound it makes is very pleasant.
〇Course
Here, we have the ``Omakase Set Meal'' course, where the tonkatsu is served in order and you can choose between katsudon or cutlet curry, and the ``Tonkatsu Set Meal'', where you can only have the tonkatsu. I definitely recommend the ``Omakase Set Meal''!
This is a course that features 3 or 2 types of today's brand pork. It's the best course, with unlimited refills of rice, cabbage, and red soup stock, and a bowl of rice or cutlet curry to finish. By the way, you can eat 260g of tonkatsu for 3 types and 200g for 2 types.
Today's brands are the following 5 types:
・Nishikiun pork (fillet)
・Sanemon (Loin)
・Hayashi SPF (shoulder roast)
・TOKYO X (Loin)
・Kyotanba pork (rib roast)
I'm a tonkatsu beginner, so everything looks amazing! That's my impression (lol) Then, when the course started, the pork cutlets were brought out one after the other, just like at a sushi restaurant, and each and every item was impressive...the common knowledge of tonkatsu was gradually being rewritten.
I've only ever eaten tonkatsu at chain restaurants, but this is on a completely different level. First of all, the ``batter'' is so fine that it feels like it's going to melt in your mouth. The texture is amazing...The meat is so soft that it feels like it's melting in your mouth. It goes well with rice, so of course you can have it as a substitute.
However, at the end of the meal, you can choose between katsu curry and katsudon, but since the portions are quite large, I made a mistake in pacing myself.I wish I had eaten more at the end and not had more refills! I chose the cutlet curry, and not only the cutlet but also the curry was delicious so I couldn't pass it up.
If you can't just go because it's hard to make a reservation, but are even slightly interested, please try the monthly phone challenge! Common sense about tonkatsu will change.
