You can buy excellent Japanese wagashi at this popular store in Tokyo. Highly recommended if you want good quality.

It's called Daihuku, little different from mochi technically but give it a try. Won't regret. Since it's very popular, come in the morning before 12:00.

A quaint little confectionery shop. The staff were okay. I got their most popular product, a mochi bean snack (Mame Daifuku). It was really tasty, the mochi and red bean filling being very soft and melting in my mouth. It is surrounded in cornstarch, which makes it very silky, too. The flavor was pretty good.
They also sell little candy drops, which I got as a gift for friends.
