Okiyoshi Review Summary

Truly a special place.

No frills - just great sushi and super kind staff. Chef truly cares about his craft and ensuring his customers have a tasty and good time. If you’re staying at a nearby hotel this is a no brainer as a more casual spot requiring no reservations.

The entire staff was very welcoming. The other people there were Japanese men in suits so it really is a rare best of both worlds of amazing food and very kind service even though we were an English speaking pair.

Some of the best sushi I had in Kyoto, even compared to places you may find acclaimed in the Michelin guide. My pictures obviously do the flavor and textures no justice so you will just have to go try for yourself.

I enjoyed how the onigiri was often prepared in pairs to try with sauce and no sauce.

Wow, this place is truly a hidden gem. The sushi chef is so incredibly kind and sweet, personally thanked every party that left the restaurant. The sushi was spectacular - especially the uni was to die for! Will be returning 100%!

It was our first night in Kyoto and we wanted something tasty, close to our accommodation. SO grateful we found this gem of a place - the food was outstanding (oishi desu!) and the service was super welcoming. Kid friendly too (we had our 7yo daughter with us) - she said it was the best sushi she’s ever had (she’s had a lot, too!) and I agree. Thankyou so much to Chef, who was super sweet, and welcoming 🙏🏼🙏🏼

This is truly how sushi should be experienced, made with care and attention by someone who loves the craft. I would recommend this spot to anyone visiting Kyoto. Thank you for the feast!

Okiyoshi was a great spot for local Kyoto Sushi. We enjoyed it so much, we returned for a 2nd dinner during our stay in Kyoto. Ikeda-San and staff were so welcoming - prepared excellent / quality fish and other dishes, while sharing the ways to enjoy each sushi order -
