O.mo.te.na.shi Komatsu Review Summary

From their web site you might think this is a large fancy restaurant but in fact it is a charming one man show.

We were the only people in the restaurant and we essentially had a person chef. He doesn't speak English but made heavy use of a translation app to explain each dish as it was served.

We had the Hospitality Clothing course: Appetizer/Grilled appetizer/sashimi/Seasonal dish/Meat dish and vegetables/Vinegared dish/Freshly cooked rice in a clay pot/Pickles/Shellfish soup/Dessert Total of 10 dishes.

Each was was delicious and we left happy and stuffed. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

I paid much less than what I got. Delicious authentic Japanese cuisine which has been cooked and served with their hearts. With lot of luck, a sudden rain stoped us in front of this restaurant when we were about to leave Kyoto.

Update on 27/11/2022:
It happens a lot in the past years in our world but the quality here doesn’t changed. Last time I visited Kyoto when COVID-19 just began. Many countries such as Japan closed their border shortly. I have got no vacation until recent trip. After having a fine dinner here, I said to the chef that I would like to see him next year.

Komatsu-san is an understated, extremely skillful chef. Through random happy accident we happend upon his restautant for lunch. His place is super unassuming, seating only 6 (maybe) in what looks like a small japanese house.
He served me and my family a custom set menu where everything was interesting, delicious and communicated the local flavors of what we was serving. Sake was great too!
Highly reccomended for unique, no frills, pure dining experience.

Super nice atmosphere, friendly hosts, amazing food. Recommended!!!
