Otagi Description
Located in Kyoto, Otagi is a renowned Japanese restaurant that offers a unique and innovative dining experience. What sets Otagi apart from other establishments is its fusion of traditional Kyoto cuisine with creative and unconventional flavors. The master chef, Kazuaki Baba, who has worked in some of Kyoto's most prestigious restaurants, brings his expertise and passion to every dish.
At Otagi, you can expect to find a menu that showcases the best of Kyoto's seasonal ingredients. The chef personally selects fresh Kyoto vegetables from nearby farms every morning, ensuring that each dish is bursting with vibrant flavors and a sense of vitality. The restaurant's commitment to using local, high-quality ingredients is evident in every bite.
One of the standout dishes at Otagi is the charcoal-grilled duck with eel sauce. This unique combination of flavors elevates the traditional grilled duck to new heights, with the rich and savory eel sauce adding a delightful twist. Another must-try is the beef stew, which is prepared with katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), hachimiso (a type of miso), and taro root, resulting in a dish that is both comforting and full of umami.
The restaurant itself is a work of art, with its simple and refreshing interior design inspired by Japanese gardens. The serene atmosphere, combined with the picturesque view of the stone garden, creates a tranquil setting that enhances the dining experience.
Whether you're a connoisseur of Japanese cuisine or simply looking for a unique and memorable dining experience in Kyoto, Otagi is the perfect choice. With its innovative dishes, commitment to quality ingredients, and serene ambiance, Otagi is a true gem in the world of Japanese gastronomy.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences of my life. We’ve been to many Michelin starred restaurants in Europe over the years but nothing beats this in terms of hospitality, attention to detail and sheer friendliness. Thank you for a memorable evening. We hope to return one day.
