One of my favorite shops in Kyoto. The owner has curated an excellent selection of beverages and menu items that are both expressive of a personal style and diverse enough to suit a wide range of tastes. The lamb carpaccio with Japanese pepper is excellent and unexpected. The blue cheese potato salad is both comforting and clever. The Iberico ham is a great addition to any meal and good to try with sparkling wine.
The space is small, and only has one person behind the counter. The decor is eclectic and fun.
The menu is only in Japanese.

Friendly bartender. Chill izakaya, intimate bar style. Menu in Japanese so look at what the person next to you ordered. It’s likely good so start with that. Appetizer (otooshi) is served to everyone which is customary and has a cover charge 450¥ - for the experience, go with it. Squid, bread, and bleu cheese mashed potato. Be patient. One bartender is serving everyone at the bar. You’ll find yourself ordering more drinks while you wait.

When I saw this tiny place with some locals inside having some drinks and talking to the bartender, I knew I had to try it. It was a great experience. People were very friendly, and approached me. I ended up having many beers and sake with the locals using Google translate to help each other understand.
