Good quality soba (I tried Tensaru soba or cold soba with tempura) with a cozy (and a bit hipster) atmosphere. Personally, I think soba should be consume cold since it is the way that you can enjoy the texture of the noodle the best, so I would recommend the cold ones if you come here and try.

Sobatsuru is a restaurant mainly serving traditional soba noodle dishes located in Ichijoji area in a district of Takano in Sakyo-ku. The style is called " Tooshiage " meaning that the restaurant do not keep the stock of noodles ready-made. Their noodle is prepared upon the order of each customer so that the noodle is served very fresh. Sobatsuru was established in this area in mid 1900's and continued on among the family members. The restaurant actually has a very wide range of menu. Their menu is not just limited to noodle dishes. Their technique of making fine dashi stock also being adopted to their many other kind of dishes such as Donburi ( rice bowl topped with various type of ingredients ) meals, combination meal with tempura. Sobatsuru is one of the finest restaurants serving soba noodle dishes in Kyoto City at a very homely atmosphere. The restaurant serves itself also as Izakaya at night where you can enjoy meals while drinking sake. There are 5 tables with 4 seats and a counter table. Right next to the restaurant is a coin parking space. Sobatsuru would be a wonderful choice to stop by for dining when you come around to visit Ichijoji or Shugakuin area.
