Sushi Kagura Description

Nestled in the backstreets of Shinbashi, Sushi Kagura is a hidden gem that stands out in the bustling Tokyo dining scene. The intimate sushi restaurant, with only nine counter seats, is a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication of its owner, who honed his skills at the renowned Ginza Kyubei before venturing out on his own. Service and the food is great. The chef would chat a lot with all the customers introducing their sushi. Other customers are nice. Highly recommend for foreign visitors. Sea urchin and tuna are exceptionally great.

I probably had too high expectations, but it turned out it wasn’t as good as other guests’ reviews. The young chef was very chatty and friendly, which is not often seen after having been to many Omakase experiences.

Nothing stands out for me.

I might not be right but feeling like sushi rice could be improved where some of sushi rice was too soft and loose, towards a bit sour/acidic…
Overall still good.

A shop on the verge of Michelin star per word on the street. Looks like Taisho is raising the omakase price soon but I think it’s still worthwhile to visit if you are in the area.

Fairly easy to book online via Tabelog.

I even got a present from one of the regulars when I went to dinner. Awesome vibe and experience altogether. Recommended.

Chef Sho and his staff were absolutely incredible from start to finish of the entire evening! Very kind, attentive service, and fantastic atmosphere the entire time. For foreigners, Chef Sho also speaks English and made sure to explain everything; I felt very comfortable the whole time. They also noticed me taking photos and was very kind with helping me out with that! There were some latecomers too, and the level of organisation and accommodation from the whole crew was very impressive.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but the food was gorgeous. Everything tasted completely beautiful, fresh, and flavourful and was paced perfectly to allow a very comfortable flow of enjoyment. It was also an absolute treat to watch Chef Sho expertly and meticulously prepare each piece. It was all scrumptious fish, but some particular standouts: the octopus (I didn't know that kind of heavenly soft texture was even possible!), uni (delightfully creamy, precisely portioned), and the crab (wonderfully sweet, paired supremely with the sauce, and the rice-warmed citrus zest truly taking the flavour to the next level).

All in all, a totally perfect evening. I'm so thankful I got to experience it!
