Sushi Restaurant Shimaya Review Summary

Got here right at open and sat at the bar. Ordered everything from my phone and food and beer started flowing immediately. I also had the privilege to watch these artists work. Everyone working in sync to produce outstanding food quickly, efficiently, and the presentation was incredible. It’s a laid back place with top tier food. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Well done!

Three of us arrived in the early afternoon. We didn't have a reservation and got a seat. You go down the stairs from the street. Unpretentious, but very attractive ambience (PS. The toilet was extremely clean). We had deep-fried seafood as a starter, very delicious, especially with the soya sauce. As a second course we had sushi, which was also fantastic. The seafood and fish are very fresh compared to Europe. Ordering via QR code at the table is very convenient. Also the reordering. The only negative thing I noticed was that the air conditioning was very cold. It is common in japan.

A fantastic place to eat sushi. Each roll is carefully handcrafted and you can tell by the richness in flavor. The menu also has some interesting rolls - akin to sushi in America. Any set you get has large portions, so don't order too much right away.
The first time I went here, I found myself full with just one set of rolls, but I had ordered two (the 10 seafood rolls and the spicy tuna rolls).
The pricing is affordable.
They also provide an English menu via a qr code, which I found convenient as someone who can't impeccably read Japanese.
It gets crowded quickly due to its location, so I suggest calling ahead to reserve a seat!

Phenomenal price for the sushi. I loved the service and the kindness of the staff. The plum wine and lemon sour were tasty. The tuna sushi and omakase were my favorites, the hakodate (scallop), though soft, tasted a tad off. Overall would 10/10 come back again.

Really great hidden sushi spot. Off the main road and down some steps, but the food is extremely good and very reasonably priced! We got a bunch and it only cost $50USD. Staff do not speak much English but the ordering system (on your phone) has an English option and is easy to understand. Would recommend!
