Came here with a group of friends, including local hosts. They pre-ordered a 8-course dinner for everyone, ranging from sashimi to mini Shabu Shabu. Everything is delicious, except for the tempura was not as great as the one I had earlier of the week at a specialized tempura restaurant. They also have a wide selection of the Kyoto area Sake. They came with a small vase of serving size that everyone can share. Overall, very good dinning experience.

Delicious sushi in a friendly and relaxed environment. This quiet little slice of heaven was the best sushi that we had during our 4 week stay in Japan. When we walked in we were a little intimidated by our lack of Japanese and the very local feel of the restaurant; local businessmen and families made up the other customers. We were motioned to wait on two of the smallest stools I've ever sat on (I'm only 1.84cm so not huge but I felt like a giant) next to the till and wait until there was a space at the counter. After only a 5 minute wait we were given our space but we were lucky with the timing because no other seats became available during the next 1.5 hours.

We were given a picture menu and along with some broken english but lots of smiles we were guided through the menu and made our selection. With one chef and two servers there was never a long wait and watching the chef work was enthralling. He's very relaxed, joking and bantering with the customers - it would have been great to be part of the conversation and has motivated me a fresh after my 2 months of studying Japanese.

The food was delicious. Everything that sushi should be, fresh, melt in the mouth and delicate but full flavours. Not too much rice or wasabi and over all perfectly balanced. If you're planning a trip to Kyoto and even if you're not staying locally to this restaurant I think it's worth the trip to experience a genuine local's dining evening.
