Sushisai Wakichi
Sushisai Wakichi Description
Sushisai Wakichi, an award-winning sushi restaurant in Sapporo. The omakase experience here is top-notch, offering extremely fresh fish and perfectly seasoned rice. Whether you are a sushi connoisseur or new to high-end sushi, you'll find the taste impeccable. The chef's culinary expertise shines through, and the restaurant is known for changing its menu based on the day's fresh catch. The chef carefully selects each dish, and the experience often starts with water octopus, a Hokkaido specialty. A unique feature of the restaurant is the small grilling table within the counter, allowing guests to sear, grill, and enjoy freshly prepared items, such as grilled eel with ponzu sauce.
The offerings include a remarkable nigiri featuring botan shrimp and the delightful Shachihoko Smile, known for their generous size, wonderful texture, and sweetness. The 'Toxira,' showcasing fatty salmon with eggs, impresses with its smoothness and exceptional flavor. Guests can savor the contrast between the strong sweetness and flavor of the bafun sea urchin and the beautiful aftertaste of sweetness in the purple sea urchin. The meal continues with classic dishes like 'broiled kinki' and a snack bowl featuring 'North Sea shrimp and mustard green soup,' both of which leave a lasting impression.
The sake recommendations, often featuring Hokkaido's specialty sake, complement the meal beautifully. The chef's attention to detail is evident as they observe each customer's reaction while serving sushi, ensuring a memorable dining experience.
Every aspect of the meal, from the presentation to the taste, is impeccable. Guests can expect a blissful moment filled with care and kindness with each dish. Among the nigiri sushi, the striped shrimp stands out as a remarkable highlight. It's a luxurious dining experience that leaves a lasting impression, making it a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts and those seeking an extraordinary culinary adventure.

Fantastic restaurant from the classic fatty tuna nigiri, to the more playful, creative dishes, everything was great! Also one of the few higher end places where I was able to make a reservation for 4 people, so my (teenage) kids were happy they needn’t had to stay in the hotel :)

Best sushi in Sapporo. Worth the price. English speaking staff that goes out of their way to cater to non-native guests.
