Sushizanmai Review Summary

Sushizanmai in Kyoto is a fantastic spot for sushi lovers. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The highlight, of course, is the fish – always fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. Whether you’re indulging in classics like tuna or trying more adventurous options, the quality is consistently impressive. If you’re in Kyoto and craving excellent sushi with great service, Sushizanmai is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Got seated very promptly at the bar area which was interesting as you can see the chefs work. I decided on one of the sets + additional nigiris. The sushi was very fresh and delicious - the fatty tuna and scallop are my top picks.

Didn’t seem to have as much variety as what I recalled it to have. The quality was still good but felt that the price was slightly higher than normal probably because this was in the tourist district.

The only reason why we ended up here was because the other restaurants in the district were full and we were hungry.

You would be better off trying out one of the other restaurants for a more authentic experience although it might not be affordable.

I have been to SushiZanmai before in Tokyo. It was a very nice experience and I tried the place again in Kyoto. Sushi is good. Tuna could be great. However, I remember it had a better quality and higher freshness. Perhaps it’s the different place or my memory that tricks me. I will try it again, somewhere else.

Sushi is my favorite sport and you better believe I am going pro this year. Well, at least I can with a place like Sushi Zanmai as a training ground.
