Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama Reviews

Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama Google Average Rating

We read that the wait could be long with snaking lines outside the restaurant, so we decided to have an early dinner there, especially because we have a 3 year old who gets really restless and upset when she's hungry. We were there at 6 pm, and we were the third in line, which wasn't bad at all. Although it doesn't look like it from the pictures, because all of them kinda look the same visually, we ordered 3 different types to try. One of the orders was the more expensive leaner cut, which we actually liked the least. Don't get me wrong, it was still really good, but we enjoyed the other 2 fattier cuts more. Pro tip, the side of cabbage and Japanese white rice is unlimited, so you can go nuts and ask for refills to your heart's content. When we were there, I noticed that most of the customers were tourists like us. Overall, the food is really delicious, but the service is just OK by Japanese standards. I felt that the front of house could be more polite and cheerful, but it is definitely worth the visit if you're in Tokyo.

Really delicious tonkatsu! We got there around 11am and there was only like a 5 minute wait. They take your order while you're in line so that once you're seated the service is pretty fast. They also have seafood options for those that don't eat meat.

Both my wife and I really enjoyed eating dinner here. We came here based off the good reviews and it did not disappoint. We were a bit worried about the wait when we arrived as the queue was quite long, but it went by very quick and we were seated within 20mins. This restaurant is very efficient with the way they run the place, from the queue to the food service. The staff is very friendly and accommodating for English speakers who know little Japanese. We ordered the Kurobuta pork cutlet with fried oysters from Hiroshima set (comes with rice, cabbage and miso soup with free refills) and Chami pork cutlet curry. The pork cutlets were exquisite, as they were nicely breaded on the outside but tender on the inside. They also had 3 different sauces at the table to try with the meal. The oysters were very crispy with a juicy inside. I appreciated the free refills on the delicious miso as well as the cabbage and rice. They have two options of dressing for the cabbage (Yuzu and Ponzu) which were very tasty, especially when combined. This place truly deserves the 5/5, as everything was perfect from the service to the food.
