This is an interesting small family based sushi restaurant in residential area very close to 平安神宮。 A hidden one but is popular among foreigners because the staff and chef are friendly and they can communicate a little bit in English.
Also they are accommodating and allow relatively casual way of enjoying sushi in counter.
But don't expect omakase using high-end ingredients as this restaurant is off casual style
Their lunch set tuna bowl is actually below 1000 yen.
But if you got more budget and want to try some fresh ingredients, they do have a fish tank in the counter where you can pick up abalone, swimming shrimps, etc for sashimi or grill dishes.
Interesting place in general and don't just stick to the sushi set lunch in case you visit there, and it would be much more enjoyable.

Excellent restaurant and perfect price/quality ratio. It’s small so no suitable for big groups. Menu in english. You can order bowls and they also have sushi. I ate eel (anago) with the miso soup and it was really good. The sashimi was delicious too. It’s a bit far from everything but it worths the visit. The waiters were very friendly and spoke english.

A cute little single bar sushi restaurant in the side streets. A great choice for lunch with fresh, tasty sushi and sushi bowls. The wife had a delicious eel bowl and I went had an equally good tuna one with different cuts, each served with a delicious miso soup. Excellent value for money with an incredibly friendly chef and waitress.

Wow! What should I say, I love Sushi and I am from Austria (no sea:) but this sushi here was the best price/value sushi I ever had in my life!
The owner (and his wife I guess) are very friendly and are running the place since 1979 as he told me if I remember correctly.
I first started with the simple sashimi plate. That was good but not outstanding but then I ordered the Tuna belly and the see eel and that was when I felt in Love (besides the scallops)!
Tuna belly, see eel and see urchin are generally the best of the best but this one was outstanding.
Then I also ordered nata maki and plum maki besides another see eel and pickled Makrele. The makrele was the cheapest of all sushi and indeed not the best. The nata was also not my test. But again considering the price and the quality it is a must visit especially when you are visiting the temple nearby anyways
Whenever I am back in Kyoto I will go there again no matter what!
Thank you very much you made my day!

The place is really nice, the staff is also really kind.
The food is good, nothing extraordinary, it’s just really worth the price.
However, if you don’t pay attention to what and how much you order like me (for instance I wanted to try Natto sushi roll, Sake and Sea Urchin), the bill can be pretty expensive. I would recommend trying those « special » stuff in a more high quality restaurant as it would cost around the same (maybe more) but for way better quality.
- The sea urchin tasted a bit bland -
(I paid 3500¥ for what is written above+sushi set).
They have English menu which is really nice.
