Tsurutontan Shinjuku Review Summary

I visited “Tsurutontan” for a late-night meal for the first time in a while. Even around midnight, the restaurant was lively—classic Kabukicho vibes!

I ordered my favorite dish, the cold mentaiko udon, with an extra topping of mentaiko. The generous amount of mentaiko paired with the chewy udon was simply perfect. Tsurutontan’s udon never fails to impress.

It’s such a treat to enjoy food of this quality late at night. With options like sashimi and small dishes, it’s also a great spot for casual izakaya-style dining.

Service is good . Food is average. Ordered the special ginseng udon with chicken . I had expectations that it would be like Korean ginseng chicken but it is nowhere near. Also ordered the tempura but the tempura had an oil taste that probably resulted from reusing the oil too often and not changing new oil when frying .

Pork cutlet curry udon was fantastic (tip - order double udon!) Best meal so far this trip. Spacious booths, so it's busy but feels relaxed. Will definitely come back.
