Outstanding meal and drinks at this homey neighbourhood izakaya.
According to Tabelog this is one of the highest ranked izakayas in Kyoto. We called ahead to secure a seat at the counter. The menu is heavy on seafood: We started with assorted tuna (maguro) sashimi, oysters (kaki), raw soft roe (shirako) and sea urchin (uni) from Hokkaido. Absolutely top notch! Two more warm dishes followed, with crab brains (kani miso) and grilled fish (sanma), again spot on!
The welcoming master recommended nihonshu whenever we ran dry on drinks, and his selection was excellent, including some real sake gems.
A really cool place, I can recommend without hesitation!
