Booking in advance is a must. No walk-in is allowed.

Upon arrival, all guests must took off shoes. Thrn be seated on the second floor. Very traditional tatami seating. The server would leave us a menu to choose from the main sukiyaki sets. For dinner, each guests needed to order at least one main sets. For us, we ordered (1) kuroge young cow's beef ranked A5 sirloin at 5000 yen. (2) kuroge wagyu ranked A5 rump meat at 4000 yen.

Firstly, the server will put the cow's oil first, then vegetable, then add in some sukiyaki soup and sauce. Then, she will put in kuroge young cow's beef ranked A5 sirloin. When the beef becomes medium to well, then we could start to eat. We been told to dip every pieces of beef and vege into the raw egg as this is the way Japanese people eat sukiyaki. This dipping really elevated the taste to next level. Wow. 5 stars.

We chose one rice and one udon as base to compliment the sukiyaki.

After finishing, the server would add in more soup, and kuroge wagyu ranked A5 rump meat. She asked us just to eat it as shabu shabu.

After finishing, we was presented the sorbet dessert. Delicious.

When we about to leave, the server had already taken our shoes from the shoe rack and placed them near the door. What's a good service.

The grapefruit ice cream after the meal is also super delicious!

A5 beef is so good here with a very reasonable price. They do provide Pork dishes for those who’d like to eat Pork. Asari Honten is an authentic Japanese Sukiyaki house in a historical Japanese building. Not only we enjoy the food and the service, but the building and atmosphere are very historic like going into a Samurai house 😆. Even though no one seems to speak English here but we could communicate without problems. Love everything here.

We arrived at around 10.20am and managed to secure a table at 11.00am. Private dining area. We ordered one A5 wagyu (50,000 yen) and normal lunch course (18,000 yen). Good service, good ambience and delicious.

Amazing food and a one of a kind experience. The atmosphere of the old building was great. Our hotel helped us book a reservation, which is definitely required as others have mentioned. There is an English base menu for the main course sets (which come with vegetables, plus rice or noodles) but you will need google lens to translate the Japanese menu if you want sides or another round of just veggies. Great sake menu as well! Highly recommend this restaurant for folks visiting Hakodate.
