The tonkatsu here is good and comforting, but not something I would go out of my way for. The pork is more gamey than most tonkatsu I've tried, but the curry is delicious and spicy, with a more wet texture than the usually thick curry. Service was fast, and there are some counter seats and maybe 3 tables. Rosu set was 1500yen and hire curry 1200yen during dinner service.

Have now done the famed 🤪 tonkatsu gosanke (the three houses) of Meguro — Tonki, Tonkatsu Taihou, and this place. Down below in a completely missable building of the Showa era (had missed it for a couple months now). The shop has a Showa era vibe too, some serious patina. Had the hire-katsu. The cabbage was mounded high, the dressing was sesame with maybe some kewpie, pretty good. The katsu itself was also good, perhaps a little workmanlike. Not getting any prefecture vibes from this cutlet. Fry-style more like Tonki, breading separates easily. Nice miso, rice, and pickles to round out the set. Service was good. Guy behind the counter would probably take the honorific “general”.
Of the three, I’d say Taihou easily takes the local cake. This place a little better on the sociability scale - people were actually talking, and there are a couple of tables - but the meat just isn’t as good. Still would prefer this to Tonki, though. Worth checking out.

Nice small humble katsu restaurant. It seems like it’s been here for a long time and it feels like a locals place.
