Mako And Yasube Seafood Restaurant

This eatery was open early at the Hakodate Morning market and I was looking for a place that was serving fresh local squid/cuttlefish as the Hakodate area is known for this specialty.

The squid was fresh, sweet and not slimy at all. It had a nice firm chewy texture that I enjoyed and it contrasted nicely with the soft flesh of the Hokkaido scallops and sea urchin. A great bowl that I immensely enjoyed!

The service was good and you also get a free miso soup with your order.

Very friendly staff, decently priced rice bowls that are fresh and nice.

Ordered the Hokkaido 5 flavor bowl with a mix of ikura, salmon, small 🦐 and uni.
- ikura and small 🦐 were amazing and fresh
- salmon was average
- unfortunately the uni had a strong metallic after taste which was a bit different

Fresh seafood bowls served quickly. Come here early to avoid the crowds that form near to lunch time. Some basic Japanese will help here to get your order through. The salmon roe (ikura) and sea urchin (uni) are really good.

Good service, reasonable price. The seafood bowl set is fixed with the seafood combination, you could not choose what you like. Of course, if you’re food allergy for specific item, they can add the quantity with other item in your bowl. It seems many local famous people visit as there’s hanging many of their photos and signature. They can provide Chinese and English menu but not accept credit card.

This is a great little restaurant to have a seafood bowl. In fact the entire street is selling seafood bowl. The food is very fresh and they tastes really good. However, I wish the quantity can be a little more as the price is not cheap. I'm thinking that I can eat much cheaper seafood bowl in Vancouver compared to here.
