I loved this restaurant. I can honestly say it served the freshest, tastiest Chinese food I've ever had. I ate there about five times while staying in Nezu, and as a single female diner. It was gratifying to see other solo diners there. The staff are very friendly and efficient and the prices very reasonable. On my last night there I had to wait outside along with six others for tables to become available and had some wonderful conversations with both Japanese and fellow travellers, the exchanges continuing once we were all seated. That was a special experience.

Otome, the Chinese restaurant of my youth

When I was in high school, I used to go to Otome every Saturday before club activities to get tanmen. This restaurant used to have the feel of a town diner, but it was rebuilt last year and the shop has also been renovated. It looked very stylish! The store will be closed from the day after tomorrow due to the coronavirus, so I decided to come back here for the first time in 40 years. Thank you for the delicious meal! The interior looks more like a Western restaurant than a Chinese restaurant. There were many elderly solo customers. The food prices are reasonable. The gyoza are not good...the skin is thin and the taste and grilling is similar to that of frozen gyoza. The shrimp chili is also a home-made ketchup flavor rather than an authentic Chinese dish. The fried rice had a unique vinegary flavor that surprised me. The ingredients are more like pilaf than fried rice. Although it is refreshing to eat, it may not be suitable for people who like hearty foods.
