Yudofu Sagano Description

Yudofu Sagano is a hidden gem nestled in the serene surroundings of the famous Tenryuji Temple in Kyoto. This authentic Japanese restaurant specializes in yudofu, a traditional tofu hot pot dish that is beloved by locals and visitors alike. The name 'Sagano' refers to the beautiful Sagano district, known for its picturesque landscapes and historic temples.

What sets Yudofu Sagano apart is not only its exquisite cuisine but also its stunning traditional Japanese architecture. The restaurant is housed in a meticulously crafted sukiya-style building designed by the renowned architect Murano Toyo. As you step inside, you'll be transported to a world of tranquility and elegance, with tatami floors, sliding doors, and a peaceful Japanese garden.

The menu at Yudofu Sagano showcases the artistry and delicate flavors of yudofu. The signature dish is the Yudofu Set, a multi-course meal that features various tofu preparations, including silky tofu simmered in a flavorful broth, tofu skin rolls, and crispy deep-fried tofu. Each dish is beautifully presented and highlights the natural flavors of the tofu, which is made fresh daily using locally sourced soybeans.

In addition to yudofu, Yudofu Sagano also offers a selection of other traditional Japanese dishes, such as tempura, sashimi, and seasonal vegetable dishes. The restaurant prides itself on using only the freshest ingredients, sourced from local farmers and fishermen.

Kyoto is known for its tofu; yudofu Sagano is along smaller streets and behind the several statues of monks you may encounter near one of its temples.

It’s a very scenic restaurant and everyone must order a set course, fortunately there’s only one option and it was 4000 yen. It comes with several different kinds of tofu. Dessert is given and there is an optional and extra one, I highly recommend getting it.

Service is great, of course. It really makes you feel like royalty.

Tofu specialty. Only one menu is served. 4000 yen nett per pax. Love Onsen egg, Yuzu Konjac, Soya Pudding and simmered Tofu cubes. Service was attentive and it has English speaking server also. Sounds a bit pricey for a tofu meal but a must for tofu lovers.

A fixed menu at 4,000yen per head. It consists of the best tofu I have ever eaten. Allowing you to focus on the main star, and you wonder what kind of tofu you have been eating. The whole experience have been wonderful in the beautiful restaurant.
