Jumping Dragon Gate Cantonese Restaurant

Expensive is an understatement, while it might command the prices for premium Cantonese dishes, the culinary quality lacks a tat especially when 3 guests dined for close to ¥75,000.

Had the opportunity to sample half a roast duck, 8 slices of high marble char siew, 8 slices of BBQ pork, 4 BBQ pigeons and a big steamed groupa.

To start, service was good but there is certainly room for improvement, the restaurant is beautiful with private dining rooms.

I expected no less not only in respect to the order of dishes to be served along with full table service explaining what is being served, complementing sauces and how best to enjoy which was evidently missing (we had to taste ourselves to confirm what was on the table).

The dishes were served in this order, BBQ pork + char siew + roast duck came first followed by the BBQ pigeons and the groupa last.

The BBQ pigeons should always come first as an entree followed by the 3 main meats preceded by the groupa. The groupa should have been deboned in front of us but it was neither suggested nor offered, we had to do it ourselves.

The roast duck lacked succulent flavor while the char siew did not spend enough time being BBQ. I suspect these were not cooked using fire and charcoal hence the lack of primary flavors where I expected better for the prices.

The soya sauce over the groupa was also less pronounced and was missing the punch to bring the best flavors of the fish out which was highly disappointing albeit the BBQ pigeon was the only outstanding dish by all measures.

The atmosphere is relaxing, waitstaff very kind (and they speak English), and the food is fantastic! I came here alone for lunch and had the hot and sour soup, Japanese beef with seasonal vegetables, and the almond tofu with fresh fruit. The waitress also brought hot tea after the meal. All of it was amazing but the beef and tofu were superb! Highly recommend!! It’s inside the Ginza 6 shopping mall (6th floor).

Had the recommended lunch course with plenty of volume and plenty of variety, but a little heavy on the shrimp.

Authentic HK dim sum!! We went as a group of 4 females who are from HK :) at lunch time. No reservation and we waited for about 10mins. Good service. A bit pricey but it’s great for lunch with a purpose. They have a long list of alcohol menu but very expensive. None of us drink and we paid ard ¥4500 per head. Satisfied. Will go again 👍🏻

Expensive upscale Chinese dining. Quality is good but the standout for me is the HK style roasted meat lunch set which is a steal at around 2000 JPY. The roasted goose (mix of dark and white meat), crispy skin roasted pork belly and BBQ pork (charsiu) are roasted to succulent perfection and go well with the rice and pickles. The lunch set also comes with a bowl of shrimp wanton in superior stock and almond pudding, both of which are excellent as well. This set is only available during lunch on weekdays.

Everything else on the menu looked great, just be prepared to spend a little more as the portions are typical of expensive Chinese restaurants in Ginza.
