Pastry Shop Tamagawa (Oiwake Bun)

A famous traditional manju store with one of the tastiest manjus you need to try.

With steam piping out on the side, as you approach the store you will see a line of people waiting for their fill. Come the late afternoon and you can go in without the wait.

The manju are freshly made and reach you warm - a perfect hand warmer on a cold day. Soft from the sweet red bean filling to outer, it pulls apart delicately with each bite. The mellow sweetness is complemented by the kinako flour, so it is balanced and satisfying to eat.

Though far from the station, you won't be disappointed if you make your way here.

I was able to visit and buy Oiwake Manju for the first time, which I had always wanted to try.
There are many buses that go to Oiwake from Kawasaki Station, and I think it's very good. It's worth the bus fare. One Oiwake manju costs 140 yen (as of December 2023), and it's large and has a lot of filling, so it feels heavy. There is also one, but it is surprisingly easy to eat.
Next time I would like to try different sweets.
I went there on a weekday afternoon, but there were always customers coming in, so it seemed like there was no break.It's a popular restaurant, and I'll definitely be returning.

The freshly made warm Oiwake manju is exquisite.
It's a thin, fluffy bun with a generous amount of red bean paste and sprinkled with plenty of soybean flour. The red bean paste has just the right amount of sweetness and can be eaten easily.
The dumplings are also delicious. I like soy sauce dumplings.
I also bought some coffee daifuku.
Since it is frozen, it will be ready to eat by the time you get home.
