Savoy Mishuku-dori Shop

We went during the week at lunch time and the restaurant was quiet, with just a few other customers.

It's a set menu of pizza, salad and a drink for just 1000 yen - amazing value. There are the signature margherita and marinara pizzas, along with variations that add additional toppings. Some toppings may include Japanese ingredients like scallions, tiny prawns, shirasu (tiny whitebait) and so on.

So is Savoy really one of the best pizzas in the world as people claim? I'm not sure about best in the world but it's very good and unique. The dough for one is superb. So fluffy, soft and light yet with a good chew and delicate charring from the oven. I've never had pizza like it, even in Naples.

We did feel that some of the pizzas were a little heavy-handed with the olive oil. We also though most could have used a little sprinkle of extra salt as they were verging on somewhat bland for want of a little more seasoning. In the classic Neapolitan pizza style, the pizzas are also quite sloppy in the centre - you'll want to use a knife and fork or go two-hander.

But these are delicious pizza superbly made and cooked. We also loved the salad dressing and the mushroom antipasti we tried. Service was friendly and fast.

Savoy's worth the trip to taste it for sure. If you want to avoid queues come to this one at Mishukudori, being more out of the way it seems like it's probably less busy.

Amazing pizza tucked away close to Setagaya Park. My favorite pizza in Japan hands down. They are only open on weekends (as of the time of this writing).

The Marinara pizza is fantastic. Very different from other restaurants in Tokyo in that there is plenty of space to relax and it's rarely crowded. For the best Margarita - try Strada or PST, but for the best Marinara, go here!

just as great as the azabu-jyuban shop, although this savoy comes with its own pizzas e.g. mais (sweet corn)

take out is also easy if you call in for pick up!
