Suzukien Asakusa

One of the places that made you appreciate tea (matcha, hojicha, etc) ice cream more and more. They serve matcha icecream in every intensity level. We queued outside of the store and continue inside it too. Queue was long but orderly. It took us 20 good minutes until we place our order. You pay upfront, wait a bit more and you get to enjoy your icecream upstairs.
The place felt too crowded because it was small and people were queueing in S manner. Nevertheless, it was so worth it

Delicious ice cream. Very popular. Long queue outside, but wait was only 10 mins before we got inside the shop. We ordered the most intense dark green tea ice cream No. 7 and also a lighter #6 . The darkest green ice cream is more expensive that the ice cream with less green tea, but the flavour is very intense and is probably the best choice. There is a choice between cup or cone, and 1 or 2 scoops. 2 scoops is better value that 1 scoop. Standing area upstairs to eat

If you love matcha and ice cream, then you must visit Suzukien Asakusa Honten in Tokyo. I was lucky enough to learn about this place when I visited over the summer and yes, I’m writing this review now on Christmas Eve :)

Tokyo’s summer heat is dreadful and humid so a visit to this spot is well worth your trip to cool down if you’re able to find seats upstairs. When you order your ice cream, there’s seven intensity to choose from for your matcha; number 7 as their “premium”, which is what I chose. I figured the stronger and darker the better and I was correct. I also ordered their matcha dango 🍡 (rice cake) with their green tea drink. Overall I enjoyed everything since it was a hot and humid summer day and if I had the time, I would’ve tried more of their matcha but since there was a lot of people waiting to sit, I didn’t want to hog of chairs upstairs. I’ll definitely come back and try more flavors the next time I visit Japan because it won’t be my last!
