Tonchin Ikebukuro

Chashumen I ordered was fantastic. Broth was flavorful. They gave the option of noodles and I chose straight noodles. 2 different types of chasu (few sliced, a few cubed), half egg, menma was thick. Complimentary takana was spicy, I was surprised by its flavor, in a good way. Would definitely recommend and want come here again.

Waited for 30mins on a bank holiday to get a seat. The broth was delicious. The fried chicken was very good too. This time I ordered Tokyo tonkotsu ramen. I will come back for the Tsukemen. Recommended !

Just as expected! We wanted pork broth ramen and that's what we got! You order using the vending machine but it has pictures and was easy to use. Service was quick.

Just like another review said it's mostly men 😅. They do offer a chilli oil, spicy soy bean paste, and spicy pickled vegetables at the seat. They were all good additions.

We did come at an odd time, 330 to 4pm, so there was no wait.

I appreciate the cleanliness of Tonchin.
The kitchen floor of a typical ramen shop is usually messy but theirs is not (or at least what’s viewable from my angle).

Aside from being well-kept, Tonchin looks very inviting with its bright lights. It also has a team of three efficient staff in the evening.

Their tonkotsu ramen looks exactly like the picture displayed on the ticket vending machine and tastes good. I think you’ll also enjoy like I did the unusually-shaped chashu, seasoned menma, and ajitama, along with the straight noodles that are boiled to just the right firmness.

I am wondering why some reviews here say otherwise (but I do agree that the miso ramen isn’t as good as the tonkatsu ramen). Maybe I don’t have much experience yet in knowing what makes an excellent ramen excellent. Or maybe the recipe changed and the current one pales in comparison with the previous one.

I should mention that the store has counter seats only and is patronized mostly, if not all, by male customers.
