Tsukiji Sushi Say Honten

Lined up 10mins before open and was able to get a seat in the first wave upstairs. The rice was slightly warm and seasoned perfectly. The seafood was as fresh as it gets. The chu-toro melted, wasn't the fattest cut I've had but I prefer this for more tuna flavor but I also prefer chu-toro over o-toro at high end sushi restaurants. We ordered the omakase set and sat at the bar watching the sushi chefs work their magic. The more unique nigiris we enjoyed were: soft shell crab, abalone (tasted like a pear?), sardine and the surprisingly soft squid and sea bream. We added an uni at the end but didn't really enjoy it. Uni seems like a hit or miss no matter where we go, higher end places would charge 1000 yen pp like here and taste mediocre, but cheaper 500 yen pp would taste sweet with almost no sea water taste. Either way, 100% recommend this place minus the uni.

This restaurant has a long-standing reputation and is considered an institution. The food served here is always fresh and reasonably priced. The chefs are very friendly and provide prompt service. Interestingly, many famous chefs started their careers at this restaurant.

Amazing experience you gonna have here! We got lucky, no queue for us. The chef will prepare everything in-front of you and the taste is super good.

The experience was extremely enjoyable. Sushi’s as fresh as one can be, really affordable and you feel close to the chefs. Don’t expect to talk English with the chef but ordering simple sushis is fine. All chefs were making talk and joke with local people. Recommend 10/10.
