I’ve had my share of pizza - in NYC, across Italy, and elsewhere - and this place more than held its own against the best of the best. And yes, this really is true of a tiny little joint an hour and forty minutes outside of Tokyo in a town known for its onsen.
Impeccable, kind service and attention to detail in every respect. Plenty of range on the menu, too - the salad I ordered off the seasonal menu was fantastic.

Had a great time with good quality food at a reasonable price.
Seasonal soup was mushroom, rich and nutty in flavour. Pizzas can be seen cooked in their wood oven, and tasted amazing! Atmosphere felt good as well.
The only hard thing I encountered was waiting in line while the smell of gorgeous aroma from inside.

Surprisingly fresh ingredients and good pizzas in Japan. The burrata salad starter was excellent, the four pizzas we got were delicious (considering that we are in Japan), the deserts were top notch. We got a wine bottle from New Zealand (sauvignon blanc), wirh a really good price quality ratio.

Good pizza, for Japanese standards! Obviously I had better pizza in Europe, but for Japan this is a good pizza. I took as a starter some home made bread with olive oil and asked for some pepper and salt to dip into it. Good olive oil with lots of flavour. I took the Hakone-Bismarck pizza, which was delivered surprisingly quickly after I finished my starter. The pizza is not really big but with the generous portion of bread as starter I was full. The vibe in the restaurant is good, you can pay by cash and card and the staff speaks English too!

Don’t let the line outside deter you. 808 Monsmare is absolutely worth the wait… so much so that we went 2x in 24 hours!
Food is incredible and the service is top notch. Can’t wait to head back to Hakone to have another meal here ♥️
