Lunch is best, but it's also good to have a light drink at night. There is also a great value small drink set that includes ``sashimi, one dish, dashi roll, and 1 glass of sake or draft beer.'' Since the dashimaki is very filling, I would add sake or beer at this point.
Finish off with nigiri sushi.
But the real deal is lunch. If you get off at Yamashina Station at lunchtime, please come by.

I happened to go there at lunch time, but the counter for two people was vacant and I was able to eat it. The taste was pretty good too!

It's not a large restaurant, with only two tables and a few counter seats, but the owners are very friendly and welcome you.
I wanted to eat sushi so I went to Hatsumi Sushi in front of the station.
Not only is the location right in front of the station good, but the sushi is also delicious and offers the best value for money.
The tempura is crispy and the sushi is all delicious.
I have a bit of a hard time deciding whether to have soba, chawanmushi, or salad as a side, but I end up with either soba or udon every time (lol) I'd like to try chawanmushi someday.
