Sushi Imai

We came here today right when they opened. Greeted by the chef and hostess. We opted for the 12 course meal, averaging approx ~$100 USD each. The pieces of fish were large and although it was quiet, it was really nice. We were the only ones in there as well.

Will say that unfortunately we couldn’t speak the language so we could not converse much but did enjoy the quiet atmosphere. Definitely a different experience than the U.S for omakase since there was no menu explaining the fish or anything but still an overall pleasant and delicious experience. Would come back next time we visit!

This is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The sushi was spectacular, and the experience was special. Imai does not speak English, so that’s perhaps why there are some negative reviews here. I did have to ask for what each fish was, and he didn’t provide much explanation, more of a straightforward approach. The night we dined we shared with another American family, plus a Chinese gentleman and a Kyoto local dining with a Geiko (geisha) which made the night unique. The local & geiko were indeed having a different menu than us, but we didn’t miss out at all. Sake was also some of the best we’ve had. My husband had allergies and we only mentioned them once, everything thereafter was perfectly tailored for him. All in all, I would happily recommend this restaurant.

The first thing you are greeted by is the quiet serene atmosphere of the restaurant and the smooth wooden countertop. The intensity behind the chef may be intimidating but his serious nature goes hand in hand with the quality of the sushi. Truly had an amazing experience. Do not expect an explanation behind every piece of sushi omakase is an experience to fully trust the chef. The mystery behind what you are being served adds to the experience to truly make it unforgettable almost like a dream. Ignore the bad reviews here they are from customers used to American style eatery and don’t understand the concept and culture of omakase. The price is very reasonable for the quality and experience here. Be quiet during the experience and always say thank you. We were thanked by the chef with a smile of satisfaction that we were satisfied and left with our bellies full and beyond satisfied. Truly a privilege and a treat.

P.S. the chef turned away rude customers that came in dressed very casual and were loud and obnoxious, which we very much appreciated.

This is my first experience of the high end sushi. The restaurant is neat and quiet. The omakasa lunch course I have come with appetizers, sashimi dish and 12 pieces of nigiri as well as miso soup. There isn't much talking but just simply joy of texture, flavor and showcase of craftsmanship. I have a great time there.

We were looking to have a quality sushi at last minute and we were extremely happy to get reservation in sushi Imai. The sushi was very fresh and tasty and service was so professional and kind.
