Beautiful experience of my food adventure across the globe I have to share. The restaurant is in an elegant traditional house, not difficult to find in a narrow side alley in old Kyoto if you follow Google map. AWOMB is quite a new concept and experience to me that I can make my own Omakase and roll your own Sushi. They will hand you a bowl of white rice, a teapot filled with steaming dashi broth, and a black lacquered tray full of little plates filled with stunning delicacies are the center piece of this culinary experience. You can either add the ingredients to the rice bowl and eat it with chopsticks, or you can go for sushi in seaweed – rolled in your hands.

One pity here is the staffs do not communicate in English, they explain passionately by Japanese so you need to research by yourself before enjoying the meal. Long waiting lists hence you better have a well-planed reservation at least 1-2 weeks in advance

Interesting concept where you build your own sushi. Bite-sized condiments or tasting menu (depending on how you see it) were done well and brought interesting combinations of flavours you probably might not have tried together, like apples and tofu or curry and shiitake mushrooms? Lovely ambience and great experience. I pre booked the set online. Drinks and dessert are additional but very reasonably priced.

Very hands on, fun, and interesting dining experience here. Reservation is required. You get to wrap and DIY your own sushi here. Everything on the tray was delicious and flavor will change depending on the condiments you put. Loved that they printed out a menu of what was being served on the tray. There's English on the menu so you can always easily refer to the menu to see what's on your plate. Ordered the sake sampler to try out different sake too. Be sure to order the white miso pudding too. Pudding comes covered with toasted nuts. The nuts were crunchy and pudding was really soft. Loved the texture and it was really delicious. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a fun/interesting dining experience!

Dining at AWOMB was an unforgettable experience! The chef and staff were incredibly friendly, and the service was top-notch—super professional and attentive. The vibes were so classy, creating the perfect setting for an omakase meal. The food concept was truly unique, letting us DIY our dishes, which made it even more fun and interactive. One standout was the special duck paired with the egg—it was unbelievably good, melting in the mouth with every bite. They also managed to
accommodate my very strange dietary requirements. If you’re looking for an elevated dining experience, AWOMB is a must-visit!

I was a little unsure about this place when my partner made the reservation. It ended up being one of our favorite restaurants we visited in Kyoto. The food was delicious and it was surprisingly fun to experiment all the different ingredients. The drinks were excellent too. Highly recommend.
