I recognize there are many higher end or more popular choices in this area of town. But this one isn't bad. Nothing to write home about (mind you we have have been in Japan for over two weeks and we have had some extraordinary meals so we are spoiled already), but this place has good quality fish and sushi and full of locals too. A bit less intimate but not a bad choice after all.

We sat at the bar, watching the sushi man with amazing knife skills. Chunks of fish that all look the same to me get cut into melt-in-the-mouth sushi and sashimi. We had the best scallop maki ever and we tried Japanese egg cockle (bit like a clam, tasted nice, octopus-ish).

One of the better sushi’s we have had in our 3 weeks in Japan , the chef was very friendly and skilled and the value menu was very generous, would definitely recommend if you are in Kyoto and looking for a good sushi experience.

Looked up couple of sushi-yas nearby but many sushi restaurants close pretty early. So we kind of given up looking for highly rated sushi places, then found this one when we were passing by. Even after we filled our stomach with okonomiyaki, yakisoba and wakyu, the sushis that this restaurant served gave us a surprising pleasure. Don't be embarrassed if you don't find English anywhere on the menu. They will bring you English menu with pictures. Enjoyed the food very much but didn't like the smoking.. It seems late night smoking is generally allowed in local Japanese restaurants..
