Uni Murakami Hakodate Main Store

If you want fresh uni, look no further. 5 minutes away from Hakodate Station, this unassuming little restaurant served up one of the best uni I have ever had.

Set menus are an available option here, where you are able to pick from the different type of uni bowls and match them with uni side dishes.

While the side dishes are nothing to write home about, the main star (or multiple stars of urchins actually) of the show is incredibly sweet and delectable. For uni, freshness is an absolute must as their gonnads get really fishy just a moment after slaughter, and Uni Murakami redefines what freshness means.

With their impeccable service, Uni Murakami should be on every uni lover's list when you visit Hokkaido.

We were immediately seated upon arrival on Tuesday 2pm. No queue time.

We ordered the rice bowls with 2 ingredients (sea urchin and salmon roe) 5940 yen with complimentary miso soup. The sea urchin was fresh and delicious. The best after tried more than 10 famous shops among sapporo, otaru and hakodate. The salmon roe just mediocre. 5 stars

The complimentary miso soup really caught us by surprise. It has some jelly type of bouncy ingredients inside the miso soup stock. After asking the reception, thrn only we know that they specially mixed 2 types of tororo (kunbu 昆布) inside the miso soup. One is pieces, and the other one is hairy style. We bought these 2 special tororo from them at package price 1500 yen. 5 stars

On top of the main dish, we topup another 1750 yen to receive extra 3 items (salad, Japanese omelette with sea urchin stocks and homemade sea urchin gratin. The homemade sea urchin gratin was seriously delicious and other two just mediocre. 5 stars

Price wise, quite pricey. But, for me, the price was justified by the quality and uniqueness of thier food

We have tried a better Uni at Otaru before otherwise I will give this place a 5 star rating. The service is good 💯, accepting card payments is a bonus. They also allow us to share a meal given that we are not that hungry at the time and wanted a taste of the Uni signature meals.

Truly one of the best unis I have had. We went during low season (after foliage peak before winter) so didn’t have to wait. But in my opinion, an hour wait is still worth it. Order the uni bowl set which you can then try their other top 2 recommended food. Would go back for sure.
