Kunsei Market

A restaurant which easily deserves a rating higher then 5 stars if I could give one.

I ordered two sets, the tasting set and the pasta set. Each is easily plenty enough for one person but I was feeling particularly hungry and wanted to try more of what they have to offer.

Both sets were fantastic, comprised of a variety of home smoked goods. The pasta was rich and creamy, the smokiness lending depth of flavour. The side salad had a tangy dressing with chunks of smoked cheese to balance. The tasting set was a delicious way of experiencing all the variety of smoked foods they have on offer. Finally they also provide home smoked mayonnaise as a condiment. Normally I'm not a huge fan of mayo but this stuff was so good that I ended up eating a couple small spoonfuls extra after I'd finished just to savour the taste a bit more.

To anyone out in kyoto, this is one of the restaurants worth specifically visiting this area for. Friendly, welcoming and excellent food, all you could ask for from a lunch time experience. They also have a selection of smoked goods available for purchase to takeaway if you wanted more for after!

Only thing I'd say is that it would be nice to be provided with a spoon with the fork when eating spaghetti. Everything else was perfect in my opinion.

Most delicious bacon & smoked egg sandwich. They do a really really good coffee and the staff were the best part - so friendly & kind.

I had been interested in this store as it had been featured on TV before.
This was my first time going.
I mainly came for lunch only.
The two of us shared the lunch-only smoked all-you-can-eat platter.
I had a lot of fun trying out different flavors little by little! The smoked food was slightly delicious.
